Miyoo Mini Plus hardware review: The upgraded size is a much-welcomed change and the larger screen size is definitely an important improvement for those who have been looking for something larger than the original Miyoo LCD screen, this particular device just feels right due to this size increase as well as being able to hold the item without much effort especially if you have larger hands, holding this product and playing for prolonged periods is a much more pleasant experience compared to the Miyoo mini. The L&R trigger buttons are also much easier to press due to the size increase and it's not an awkward experience when playing certain titles that require this input.

 

A few things that we have been hearing about are the rare complaints regarding the factory adhesive around the screen glass which often can become loose if exposed to higher temperatures (this was also common with the original Miyoo), the adhesive itself will come undone if exposed to higher temperatures, this is an easy fix, by applying small drops of super glue adhesive around the periphery of the frame you will be able to secure it back in its position if such a thing does occur. 

 

These assembly issues are very common among popular electronics and the retro handhelds that have been built in China as quality control oftentimes tends to be overlooked, this is especially true when there's a first batch of new products coming out.

 

Performance: you can expect this product to perform similarly to the original Miyoo mini, we put it through the paces by testing out some difficult systems such as GBA, Mame, Neo Geo, and up to PS1 and did not notice any problems emulating some of the more challenging titles, the improvement was noted especially after upgrading the emulator cores to the latest version and we can confidently confirm that this device performs beyond its expectations of the factory configuration. The price-to-performance ratio on this device is excellent and you will notice that it is a very capable handheld for its price range.

 Also note that the unit is ultra-portable and compact, if you prefer larger screens or have hands the size of Bigfoot then you'll probably not enjoy gaming on this unit, perhaps try out the larger 351v or the upcoming 353v and 353VS which is larger than the miyoo but still compact and portable enough to carry around.

 

This is one of our favorite systems, the cost per dollar to performance is by far ahead of the rest, this little system performs amazingly well considering that it does not have a hefty CPU or GPU.

One great feature that you may enjoy is the quick sleep mode, by tapping the power button you can turn off the screen to save battery life during breaks, and you can also activate "cartridge mode" which allows you to focus on playing one game at a time and can continue where you left off in a game.

 

Using open-source retroarch will enable you to save and load progress, change emulation settings to your liking, apply filters, change aspect ratios, and have access to the latest emulator cored for the best performance possible.

 

As mentioned above, its intended use is for on-the-go Ultra portability and can easily be stored in your pocket. The quality of the build is great, it has a very similar feel to the original game boy, the buttons are reactive and have a very nice tactile feel, the back buttons also are a nice added feature that is great for PS1 titles.
