New Anbernic RG552 handheld gaming console, dual boot Android & 256GB Linux OS SD card, 55+ systems

One of the best-selling plug-and-play units we have is the RG552 and it does quite an amazing job and emulating some of the most difficult titles that have always been problematic with other handhelds of previous Anbernic generations. 

Please note that we also have the SD cards for those who already have the system, the 256 GB SD card is plug and play and will work with all models of the RG552.

The primary Linux-based operating system is running the most stable Batocera with NDS support and system fixes from the previous version for the best performance possible, pre-configured on a 256 GB Samsung or SanDisk micro SD card, you will also have the ability to boot up into Android if you desire and have an additional 64 GB of internal storage, if you choose to use Android simply remove the SD card and boot up, the system has also been updated to the latest Android 11 OS which was just recently released, this enables you to easily switch to overclock profiles when playing demanding titles and this will enable you to increase performance by roughly 20% compared to the previous version of the Android OS, however, this comes with the cost of the battery draining faster.

A lot of work has been put into tweaking and bug-fixing this system, we have been testing this system for the past months and are quite satisfied with its performance at the moment, many patches were applied and other bugs were addressed.

We noticed a drastic improvement in emulation of DC, N64, PS1, PSP NDS as well as added support for Atomiswave, Openbor, Sega Naomi, 3DO, and Saturn emulation, although the OS is still in its early days, there should be updates that will only make this OS even better as the community keeps developing it. PSP and DC emulation has substantially improved, PSP at 2x resolution runs very well and even 3x resolution will also run if applying frame skip, roughly 50+ systems are supported at the moment.

Overall rating on the emulation of various systems, based on the titles we tested:

N64: 8/10 (640x480) resolution, most titles run well, the usual culprits are still not optimal) on Android OS: 10/10 emulation, 720 or 1080 resolution without issues using M64 Plus FZ, frames were smooth and amazing detail to emulation quality.

DC: 9/10 (640x480) majority of games run smoothly, with minimal tweaking required.

PSP: 8.5/10 (2x resolution) when frameskip is applied you can even run at 3x resolution, there will be some titles that are not optimally running.

Saturn: 8/10 the majority of titles are playable without major concern, you may run into choppy play with some titles.

PS1: 10/10 (4:3, 1152x1536 integer scaled) games appear sharp and responsive, have not noticed lag or sound distortion, excellent overall.

8-16 bit systems: 10/10 depending on the system, these older systems will not be a challenge for this hardware, the majority have no frame rate drops or sound distortions, based on what was tested.

Experience may vary depending on the title and the emulator selected to run that title, setting up emulators in Android and also being familiar with retroarch settings will enable you to tweak any problems and potentially solve them if you are familiar with applying optimal settings.

Hardware specs: the first thing that you will notice is the ultra-sharp touchscreen IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1152 which is sharper than some of the mobile phones of the current generation, the display is vivid and very sharp and is perfect for some of the more graphically demanding games, the color saturation, brightness, and contrast are accurate, the filters have also been applied for ideal and accurate display of classic systems. The shell also resembles that of the previous models such as the RG350M and RG351MP, the front and backplate are made of a hard plastic material which resembles an aluminum finish, it is quite a good quality finish that feels right and does not attract fingerprints. the buttons are also responsive and feel precise when playing button-mashing fighting games. Another important add-on is the active cooling Anbernic added to this device, the cooling fan rarely kicks on when playing older systems but will be activated when temps rise during graphically demanding titles, the fan is not loud based on the testing we did when running DC, PS1, N64, and the device did not get hot which is very important in the prevention of heat-throttling (based on our testing temps did not exceed 55 degrees Celsius). The touchscreen is also a welcomed addition to this system, when using Android this makes it much easier to navigate and use, the screen feels responsive and is very smooth to scroll through the various menus, etc. 

Another great feature is the sound quality of the speakers, we now have dual speakers which are quite an improvement from previous Anbernic models.
